“You shall not give false testimony.” – Exodus 20:16
Memory helper: Hold up nine fingers and say, “Commandment #9.” Then use your pointer finger to make the sign for truth and say, “Always tell the Truth.”
Someone asked my one year old how old they were recently and she let out a squealy, “TWOOO!!!” Oh boy, she’s only 1 and already lying about her age!
We laughed since it was so sweet and innocent, and most likely a coincidence that she even answered with a number!
But the TRUTH is, lying is no laughing matter! The Bible says,”The Lord detests lying lips, but He delights in men who are truthful.” – Proverbs 12:22 and “Love rejoices with the truth.” – 1 Corinthians 13:6
God DELIGHTS in the truth and REJOICES with the truth. So we should too!
Thankfully, we’ve only had a few minor issues with lying so far but each time we have prayed, read scripture, and then celebrated when that child told the TRUTH!
The Bible lists several blessings of Truthfulness:
- You will love life & see good days! – 1 Peter 3:10
- You will dwell with the Lord! – Psalm 15:1-2
- You will endure for ever! – Proverbs 12:19
- You will be valued! – Proverbs 16:13
- You will save lives! – Proverbs 14:25
- You will be set free! – John 8:32
Wow, those promises are great, aren’t they!
I’m so excited! For the month of March, we are learning about the BODY!
This commandment tied in perfectly with our today’s lesson – our mouths!
More on that SOON!
Until then, let’s use our mouths for good. Let’s confess He is Lord, praise His Name, speak encouragement, ALWAYS TELL THE TRUTH, etc.
“May the words of my mouth… be pleasing in your sight, LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.” – Psalm 19:14
